Mr Pudge joined us from the humane society where he was under a euthanasia order. He was in so much pain from frost bitten ears, a badly hurt right eye, upper respiratory infection and infected teeth that he had snapped at a volunteer.

    But his fighting spirit attracted a volunteer who asked us to take him. We started him on medical treatment including pain relief, antibiotics, lysine and removal of infected teeth.

    After neutering and months of medical care to heal his other issues. Pudge became the "kitten nanny" at the shelter.  This secret undercover photo shows that Pudge went from being a killer Tom cat, to actually permitting kittens to nurse.

    From April to August 2009, he cuddled, washed, nursed and taught kittens the finer points of the litter box and washing up as he made every kitten feel safe and welcome.

    He also couldn't resist a little martial arts training. for the babies.

    Eventually, running a dojo for twenty kittens was causing a lot of wear and tear on Pudge and he began having weekend furloughs to Buster's house.

    Although Buster and Pudge watched each other suspiciously, eventually they saw each other as buds. Today they spend most days joined at the shoulder as they snooze and generally live a life of ease together. In the summer they operate a defense system to prevent any birds, squirrels or other rodents from entering their home through window defense technology.
